How to Enable Hidden Dark Mode on YouTube

Here is the good news for dark theme lovers and late night YouTube viewers. YouTube has a hidden dark theme, which is not available publicly for everyone. As this feature is currently being tested, it’s not available widely.

With this tricks when you watch YouTube videos mindlessly till early morning 3, you can give your eyes a little rest by enabling dark mode.

The dark theme will only be visible to you if you sign into your YouTube account and you turn it On. To check it out if it’s already available, click your profile icon at the top right and check if there is a dark mode option.

If not, all you have to do is a small change in the console of your browser to enable the dark theme on YouTube.

How to enable hidden dark mode on YouTube in Google Chrome

1. First of all, make sure you have the most recent version of Google Chrome version 57 onwards.
2. Open YouTube in your browser and sign in.
3. Open the developer window by hitting CTRL + Shift + I on Windows, Option + Command + I on Mac or right click the mouse on empty space then select “Inspect”.
4. Select the “Console” tab.
5. Copy and paste this code (or type it manually):

var cookieDate = new Date();
cookieDate.setFullYear(cookieDate.getFullYear( ) + 1);
document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE; expires=” + cookieDate.toGMTString( ) + “; path=/”;

6. Hit enter, then close the developer window and refresh the page.
7. Now click on your profile icon, you will get a list of options there where you can find dark mode as well. Tap on Dark Mode and Toggle it to activate.

How to enable hidden dark mode on YouTube in Firefox

1. First of all, make sure you have the most recent version of Firefox version 48.
2. Open YouTube in your browser and sign in.
3. Right click the mouse on empty space then select “Inspect Element (Q)”.
4. Select the “Console” tab. If you get a warning message from Firefox while pasting the code. Type “allow pasting” in the bar.

5. Then Copy and paste this code (or type it manually): document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE”
6. Hit enter, then close the developer window and refresh Chrome.
7. Now click on your profile icon, you will get a list of options including dark mode. Tap on Dark Mode and Toggle it to activate.

Anytime you can switch to the regular mode by disabling dark mode in the profile icon.

This feature is not yet officially announced by Google, hope Google will officially roll out this feature soon. Until then use this trick for happy browsing :).
