Yep, you read it correctly finally and slowly it is happening, WhatsApp started supporting GIF. First GIF support has shown up in WhatsApp on the beta version of 2.16.246 and I verified it by myself today.
Well, you can’t share GIF’s from your gallery because they’ll be sent as photos only and you can’t send a GIF link to your friends by hoping it’ll show the animated image, but it doesn’t it just shares the URL 🙁 .
But as of now WhatsApp allows you to convert existing or newly recorded video into a GIF and post it into the conversation to play. You can send any video as GIF as long as the length is 6 seconds or less.
If you’re attaching a long existing video the GIF switch button will not be available as long as you trim it to 6 or less than 6 seconds then you’ll get the GIF switch button.
How to Send Video as GIF in WhatsApp:-
1. First of all, you need to have WhatsApp versions above 2.16.242 and download v2.16.246 from APK Mirror (by clicking the name).
2. After installing the v2.16.246 open any WhatsApp conversation and tap on the “ Attachment icon “.
3. If you want to send a new recording video tap on “ Camera icon “ or if you’re going to send existing video as GIF tap on “ Gallery icon “ and then select the video.
4. In the trimming video interface tap on the upper right corner camcorder icon to switch to GIF.
That’s it now the video will be converted to a GIF and inserted into the conversation :).
It is to be noted that the person whom you’re sending this GIF need to have this latest version of WhatsApp to get it as GIF or else the same will be received as a video only.
